If you put a bed cap on an El Camino, does it become a station wagon?
Saw this one at my local shop rite.

Does putting a cap on a pickup truck make it an SUV? No? Well, there’s your answer.

No seats back there = no station wagon.

Wow now I just feel dumb....

Then what does a station wagon become if you remove the seats? A van?

No.

There are still the mounts for the seats so it’s still a station wagon. I guess you could call it a sedan delivery but usually those don’t have glass in the back.

no, but if you put a cap on it, the exhaust has to exit past the vehicle in some direction...... and if you put seats, they have to have belts. but if you take out the rear glass of the cab, it would be close to being a wagon

Is a brat with a cap a station wagon?

Nope, it’s a pickup with a cap and two weird seats in the bed. To me a station wagon has a one piece long roof and at least a second row of seats with no separation between the rows of seats and they are based on a sedan chassis. Put that on a truck chassis and you have an SUV. Now the difference between a CUV and a station wagon is just a matter of opinion since it’s mostly a matter of ride height. Hey, I don’t make the rules I just enforce them!

That was my thinking as well

I think you nailed it with the “one piece long roof” to me that part right there is the most convincing

Haha! You Americans and your El Caminos!
A car made to have a tray is not a
A ute with a top on it is a panel van .
A true panel van is made that way from factory. But if you cover your ute’s tray, the effect is the same. So that’s the closest thing to it.
Edit: According to Vicroads this car is still registered and running around, so that’s good. It was built in 1978 and its body type is listed as P VAN.
